Laminate Flooring
Have your Laminate flooring professionally fitted
Laminate flooring is a multi-layer synthetic floor covering bonded together in a lamination process. Laminate simulates wooden flooring and sometimes even stone with a photographic layer covered by a clear protective wear layer, the board itself is usually made of a compressed fibre board. Laminate flooring can be relatively inexpensive, hard wearing, easy to clean and long lasting, which is why it has significantly grown in popularity over the last decade.
Your floor needs to be relatively flat if you are going to choose Laminate as any imperfections can effect the joint between boards causing them to break away and separate. Laminate floors are installed on a foam/film underlay which provides moisture and sound reducing properties, the Laminate will then float on top of this with a 1-10mm gap around any immovable objects such as walls and fireplaces etc, this gap either gets hidden by your skirting board (preferable as it leaves an overall neater finish) or scotia/beading. The gap is crucial for any expansion and contraction, improper installation can cause peaking which is where there isn’t enough expansion and adjacent board begin to form a v shape, or if the boards aren’t properly clicked in then they can become separated from each other.
